Co-curricular activities, including sports teams, are an important part of student life at Thomas Jefferson Middle School. We encourage all of our students to get involved - either in sports, in the many clubs that are being formed, or in a variety of special events.

Information regarding all our activities is announced through the daily announcements which are read to students during their lunch period. Most sign-ups are done through the homeroom or in the office. Students should listen for information regarding any acitivities that they may be interested in. Coaches are responsible for sending home information regarding practice schedules, expectations, etc.

NOTE: Students must have their physical card, insurance waiver, and signed "Informed Consent Form" (from the TJ Student Handbook) on file before they will be allowed to participate in inter-scholastic sports teams (Cross Country, Basketball, Volleyball, Track, Swim and Dive, Wrestling). Please call the TJ office at (262) 268-6106 for additional information or to check and see if your student is in compliance.
Students who participate in interscholastic sports at TJ are required to pay a $60.00 per year activity fee. This covers all sports that they are involved in during the school year. The fee is due when practice begins for the first sport that they join.
ATTN: Parents of 7th and 8th Grade Athletes:
Practices typically do not start until 3:30 since the gym is being used for 5th and 6th grade classes until that time. Therefore, students that are dismissed from classes at 2:30 must choose between the two following options:

  1. Go to the After-School Waiting Room (the location changes weekly and is shown on the daily announcements). It is run like a study hall. Students must go there immediately following the 2:30 dismissal bell and must stay until the 3:17 bell. They should bring homework or a project or book, etc. They may get a pass to go to the library at the discretion of the supervising teacher (based on the number of students who wish to go to the library, keeping in mind that classes are being held in that area during 9th period).
  2. Leave school grounds. This means that students must leave the property entirely, not just wait outside the doors. If they live close by, they can go home. They are not to return to the building until the 3:17 bell. They will have time to change into their practice clothes in time to get to practice by 3:30.

Students may NOT be in the hallways, in the office, in common areas, etc. We do not have staff available to supervise students, other than the teacher assigned to the After-School Waiting Room. In addition, 5th and 6th grade classes are in session during this time and we must keep the hallways quiet.

Please note: Student athletes who do not follow this procedure are subject to disciplinary action by their coaches, which may include not being able to participate in an upcoming contest.

This information has been given to the students previously and we appreciate your help in insuring that your athlete follows this procedure.

Check this page often for updated information regarding upcoming sports seasons and then come and cheer on the Jaguar teams at these future events!

NOTE: Dates for all TJ sporting events are listed in the back section of the District calendar, which is mailed to all families. However, due to unforeseen circumstances and events beyond our control, dates may be subject to change.
