Welcome to our website, the Port Washington-Saukville School District, and this very special place. We are extremely proud of our students, their accomplishments, and their service to our communities. They are a wonderful group of young men and women. Please spend some time reviewing our website, because it contains some useful information about our students and programs. Also, please "like" us on Facebook, where we post pictures of recent events.
Last year, all 5th grade through 12th graders received an iPad or Chromebook to be used to enhance learning and communicate with their teachers in the evenings and on weekends. In addition, each elementary building received two mobile sets of iPads, and each classroom had four iPads along with the usual computer labs. We will be expanding this personalized learning initiative throughout the year. Staff members participated in training sessions this past summer to better prepare for the expansion this year.
We continue to hold high expectations for our students and staff members as we again score above the state average in all standardized tests including the ACT. Also, all our school buildings met or exceeded expectations on the state report card. We offer 14 Advanced Placement (AP) courses at the high school for college credit. We again had a large number of AP scholars, with more students taking the ACT test, and our overall score exceeding the previous year.
As you know, we have a very special place here because of the quality of our staff members and their caring attitude and dedication to our students and parents. When you walk into any of our five buildings, you can feel the positive energy, camaraderie, excitement, and pride. Our nine member School Board has been responsible for providing positive, student focused leadership for successful student learning.
One year ago, the Board commissioned a comprehensive feasibility study of all buildings and grounds areas - the first in the school district's recent history. The results of the study have been completed and have been well covered in the Ozaukee Press. In addition, the Board sent out a survey to all residents in the district, sharing the results of the study and asking for input in regard to the next steps. The results have been analyzed and reported to the community in October and November by a survey firm called School Perceptions. A work group has been established to develop a plan based on the survey results. The plan will be presented to the Board in December so that the Board can develop referendum question(s) for an April referendum vote. Updates of the feasibility study, the survey, and referendum are posted on our website by clicking on "Project Update" above.
Technology education and career readiness continue to be major focus areas. Consequently, we have a large S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) community-wide partnership with over 25 industrial, manufacturing, and business partners. Many of our students are job-shadowing, doing internships, taking tours, and learning from real-life experiences.
This has been a brief summary of the many opportunities for our students. Please browse our website to learn more, and you will quickly become aware of why this is such a very special place for our students to learn, grow, and develop.
