Welcome to Dunwiddie Elementary School!
We are excited about your family either joining us or continuing with us at Dunwiddie. We have great parents, students, and staff members and we look forward to sharing this school year with all of you.
This school year brings new learning standards for your children. We have adopted a new curriculum for communications called Reading Wonders in grades 2-4, which is aligned to the common core standards. K-1 will continue with an integration of large group and guided reading practices along with Daily 5 that will strengthen the reading levels of all students. We will continue to use Origo Stepping Stones math curriculum, also aligned to the common core standards, for grades K-4.
Dunwiddie kept our theme the same this year:
Character Under Construction
. Students will continue to learn about the 6 pillars of character (respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, citizenship, and fairness) and also learn about school and classroom rules. Posters are available all around the school promoting positive behavior in the bathroom, at lunch, in the hallways, on the bus, and on the playground. Ask your child about expectations in each of these areas!
Dunwiddie is happy to introduce you to several new staff members. Erin Denk, Music; Sommer Kassner, Kindergarten; Laurie Wegmann, Para-Educator, and Sarah Gonzalez, Speech and Language. Please stop in and meet our new team members!
Our DPC (Dunwiddie Parent Connection) continues to be a strong presence in our school, offering many special events and celebrations. This year, the group raised enough money to purchase a new piece of playground equipment installed on the west side of the play area. Check it out! If you are interested in joining the group, they meet monthly in the library. Everyone is welcome!
Please feel free to stop in at any time, email me at
or call me at 268-5700. I am happy to answer your questions and support your child on his or her learning journey.
