Welcome to a new school year!
We are excited about your family either joining us or continuing with us at Dunwiddie. We have some great events planned for the year along with great opportunities for your children to learn and grow with us.
This school year brings new learning standards for your children. Last school year, we adopted a new math curriculum called Stepping Stones (Origo Math) in grades K-2 that fully integrates the new math common core standards. This year, students in grades 3-4 will implement Stepping Stones. 4th grade is also piloting a new reading series called Reading Wonders that is fully aligned with the new common core ELA (English Language Arts) standards. The standards require students to apply knowledge and take bits of information and put those bits together. It is a very exciting time for all of us!
Dunwiddie has a new theme this year:
Character Under Construction
. Students will continue to learn about the 6 pillars of character (respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, citizenship, and fairness) and also learn about school and classroom rules. New posters are available all around the school promoting positive behavior in the bathroom, at lunch, in the hallways, on the bus, and on the playground. Ask your child about expectations in each of these areas!
Dunwiddie is happy to introduce you to several new staff members. Jessie Greger, 2nd grade; Elyse Bichler, 4th grade; Ashley Meyer, Special Education; Caitlin Zozakiewicz, School Psychologist; and Patty Krueger, Special Education Para-Educator. Please introduce yourself to them and welcome these folks!
We also look forward to all the new kindergarten families and all the new students moving into our community. We do have an exceptional parent group (called the Dunwiddie Parent Connection) that would love to have you join them. They meet one Wednesday a month at 3:30pm with child care provided.
Have a great rest of the summer and if you need anything, please call us at 268-5700 or stop in.
