Welcome to summer in the Port Washington-Saukville School District and this very special place. Our priority continues to be educating all students to reach their greatest potential, and the commitment to the following: “Every single day, every moment of the day, every child is better off because of his/her interactions with every staff member.”
As usual, we have over 1,100 students participating in the summer school program, with many of our teachers and paraprofessionals teaching. Also, this summer our teachers and administrators are involved in training, curriculum writing, and preparation for the 2019-20 school year.
We have a few vacancies this summer because of retirements and individuals deciding to stay home with their young children. As the principals and the staff interview teams reviewed applicants and formally interview candidates, we continue to be successful in selecting some outstanding staff members. Our theme of “hiring the best of the best” continues to move forward, in spite of the reduction in the number of individuals nation-wide moving into teaching.
The process includes interview teams selecting the top two candidates, who then meet with me, the principal, and one other district office administrator. We then select the top candidate to be offered a position. As we talk with our top candidates, it was very apparent that our reputation of high achievement, positive culture, and a student-first focus draws candidates to our school district. The school board is committed to continuing this focus on students and hiring the best of the best. The end results are future success for our students, along with providing a strong workforce.
Our construction project is complete! It came in ahead of schedule and on budget over the past 3 ½ years of construction; thanks to the expertise of construction managers CD Smith and Bray Architects. Also, we very much appreciate all of the staff input and patience through this construction process and the Director of Business Services’ oversight, as we added much needed space at Dunwiddie Elementary School and have rebuilt our high school to be a state-of-the-art educational facility. A huge thank you to our communities – “The future is bright!”
I hope everyone is enjoying our summer. Our administrators, school board members, and staff are looking forward to the 2019-20 school year.
Come and learn with us in this very special place! Alternative Open Enrollment begins on July 1st, and the District Office welcomes your inquiries (262-268-6005).
