Hello PWSSD Families,

Over the past three weeks, we have welcomed new and returning staff members, opened our doors to students, and launched another exciting year of learning. Now, we want to officially welcome all of our families back to the Port Washington–Saukville School District for the 2026–2027 school year!

We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of your children’s lives, and we take that responsibility very seriously. Throughout the summer, our staff dedicated significant time to reviewing curriculum, collaborating around the new schedules at PWHS and TJMS, and preparing our classrooms and schools so every student can have a successful start to the year.

Our buildings also underwent a tremendous amount of work this summer. From new roofs and windows to classroom improvements, including updates to the band and choir rooms at TJMS, our community’s 2025 referendum investment is already making a meaningful difference. We also watched the new Saukville Elementary School begin to rise from the ground, with the gym walls taking shape last week. We are excited about this progress and look forward to sharing updates throughout the year.

We began the school year by introducing our district theme: “We Are 1 PWSSD.” Although our district includes three elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and two communities, every PWSSD student is one of our students. This theme reflects our commitment to working together as one district to support every child.

In that same spirit, we have moved to one district Facebook page and one district app, creating a central place for the information families need. Our goal is to make school communication easier and more accessible so you can find important updates on your phone without managing multiple platforms or searching through emails for details about an upcoming event. Simply put, if it is important to you as a parent or caregiver, we want you to be able to find it on the app.

As we begin the new school year, the district is also required to provide families with several annual notices. These notices are available on our new district website at this link. Many are also included in our student and family handbooks, but we want to draw your attention to two new policy updates:

  • Policy 8600: Transportation addresses the use of video surveillance on school buses.

  • Policy 3213: Student Supervision and Welfare outlines staff training and expectations related to Wisconsin Act 89. The policy clarifies that staff communication with students must occur through district-approved platforms, including the district app, school district email, and Canvas at the high school level. These expectations help provide safe, appropriate, and consistent communication channels between school and home.

Thank you for your continued partnership and trust. We are excited for the year ahead and all that we will accomplish together as 1 PWSSD. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Michael McMahon
